Circle Theatre Junior Company Member reflects on winning the opportunity to perform on Broadway in New York City!

CIRCLE THEATRE EMERGING YOUNG ARTISTS hosted MUSICAL THEATRE INTENSIVE, an acting & song workshop taught by three of Broadway’s current hottest stars. KATELYN SMITH, a Circle Theatre Junior Company Member, dazzled the audience and instructors alike and earned her the opportunity to perform as BROADWAY SESSIONS’ Rising Star in New York City.

We asked her what the experience has taught her:

What first you interested in participating in CTEYA?
“I've been a part of CTEYA since I was 11 years old. My first show was All Shook Up during the summer of 2008. I had a friend who invited me to see her in CTEYA's production of High School Musical and that's what made me interested in auditioning.”

What 3 key takeaways did you learn from in Music Theatre Intensive?
“I learned so, so much during the intensive. I learned a lot about myself and how quickly I can learn music and choreography. I really pushed myself farther than I can ever remember and I still enjoyed every second of it. Performing with only three days of rehearsals showed me how important it is to trust the people you work with and I'm really proud of the bonds we all created.”

Which song/dance number was your favorite?
“Footloose. It is so quick and upbeat – there’s a lot of freedom to make it our own.”

How excited are you to be a part of Broadway Sessions in NYC?!?
“My mind isn't still quite wrapped around the fact that I won the intensive. I'm so excited and grateful for the opportunity to perform at Broadway Sessions in NYC. I've never been to New York so I'm absolutely thrilled that I will be visiting and even get to make my NYC debut. It's really a wild thought.”

Katelyn plans to continue studying musical theatre in college and to make it her career. Not many high school students can say they’ve already performed on Broadway before graduating high school. Congratulations Katelyn!
